Release Athens 2026 welcomes Moby on Wednesday July 1st, at Plateia Nerou. The American superstar, widely regarded as one of the most important and popular figures in electronic music, is making a highly anticipated return to touring with a spectacular show featuring the greatest hits of his illustrious career. Alongside him, one more iconic band of the alternative scene, Shirley Manson’s Garbage.
More acts to be announced soon.
If there's one thing you can say for sure about Moby, it's that he's never been afraid to try new things. This has meant playing in punk bands, experimenting with ambient music, writing speed metal songs and, above all, producing some of the biggest dance hits of all time.
Of course, it all started with a sample from Angelo Badalamenti's Twin Peaks soundtrack, which he used in the timeless anthem “Go” (1991). This was followed by a series of great releases, such as “Everything Is Wrong”, which definitively established him as one of the most important artists in electronic music. However, the turning point in his career would come later with the release of “Play” (1999), which propelled him to pop stardom. By combining blues and gospel samples with electronica in songs such as "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" and "Natural Blues", Moby broke new ground and brought dance music into the mainstream.
Since then, he has continued to evolve, forging his own path. “18” (2002) repeated the success of “Play”, with sales exceeding four million. In contrast, “Hotel” (2005) was recorded live in the studio without samples, marking a departure from his earlier style. Then, with his side project Moby & The Void Pacific Choir, he released “These Systems Are Failing” (2016), an industrial electropunk album reminiscent of the intensity of his earlier “Animal Rights” (1996). In the same year, he released “Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep" -a four-hour ambient album- that stands as a testament to the artist's unwavering commitment to delving into the intricacies of the musical genres that pique his interest.
With sales of over 20 million albums worldwide and an ever-evolving career, Moby remains one of the most authentic and independent voices in contemporary music. We are particularly delighted to welcome him back to Release Athens after many years, for the biggest show he has ever performed in Greece.

Garbage formed in 1993 in Wisconsin, USA, at the now-legendary Smart Studios. At the core of the band were producers Butch Vig, Steve Marker, and Duke Erikson, with Vig already in the spotlight thanks to his production work on Nirvana’s “Nevermind”. Their goal was to create a band that would merge the raw energy of rock ’n’ roll with the aesthetic and textures of electronic music.
While searching for a distinctive female voice in 1994, they discovered Scottish singer Shirley Manson, who quickly became the band’s powerful frontwoman and iconic figure. With her unique vocal tone and commanding stage presence, Garbage forged an identity that seamlessly balanced alternative rock edge with with the accessibility of pop music.
Garbage's eponymous debut album, released in 1995, was an immediate success, selling over four million copies worldwide and earning international acclaim through timeless songs such as “Stupid Girl,” “Only Happy When It Rains,” and “Queer.” The equally successful “Version 2.0” followed in 1998, earning Grammy nominations and firmly establishing Garbage as one of the most important acts of the era.
Despite stylistic shifts and the occasional hiatus, the band’s core line-up has remained intact to this day. With eight studio albums to their name and sales of over 17 million records worldwide, Garbage continue to preserve their signature sound, remaining one of the most recognisable and influential acts in alternative music.
